A Saint Matthew 11:25-30 25

At that time Jesus exclaimed, ‘I bless you, Father, Lord of heaven and of earth, for hiding these things from the learned and the clever and revealing them to mere children. 26 Yes, Father, for that is what it pleased you to do. 27 Everything has been entrusted to me by my Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father, just as no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. 28 ‘Come to me, all you who labour and are overburdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Shoulder my yoke and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 Yes, my yoke is easy and my burden light.’ ………………………..

Jesus addresses His Father as Lord of heaven and earth and blesses Him for making known to the unsophisticated ordinary people. Jesus has come to teach them a new Commandment. Jesus came witnessing the truth of love and mercy of God in order to release them from the burden of the Law taught by the learned and clever Temple authorities. ‘Come to me, all you who labour and are overburdened, and I will give you rest. Shoulder my yoke and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Yes, my yoke is easy and my burden light.’ This should give us great hope in our present situation of uncertainty. Our loved ones, who have died and those who are sick, have nothing to fear because we have an all-loving God and Jesus to welcome them at the end of their journey. We have the opportunity to help them on their journey by our prayers and accepting the difficulties we experience on our own lives.
