Gospel Reading – Mark 12:35-37

While teaching in the Temple, Jesus said, ‘How can the scribes maintain that the Christ is the son of David? David himself, moved by the Holy Spirit, said, “The Lord declared to my Lord, take your seat at my right hand till I have made your enemies your footstool.”

David himself calls Him Lord; in what way then can He be his son?’ And the great crowd listened to Him with delight.

Reflection:

Our Gospel text from Mark, is a difficult one? The scribes seem to have a very narrow definition of ‘Messiah’ and the cornerstone of that definition was that the Messiah would be a son of David.

In our text Jesus is pointing out that this alone is not adequate and that the definition of Messiah than what they were use to? It is easy for us to understand, because we know that he is the Messiah, though not the kind of Messiah that the scribes wanted. Our Messiah is the Son of God!

• How do you practice and carry out the Messiah’s teachings?
