Gospel Thought for Today
6th August Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord

Gospel: Matthew 17:1-9

Jesus took Peter, James, and his brother, John,
and led them up a high mountain by themselves.
And he was transfigured before them;
his face shone like the sun
and his clothes became white as light.
And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them,
conversing with him.
Then Peter said to Jesus in reply,
“Lord, it is good that we are here.
If you wish, I will make three tents here,
one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
While he was still speaking, behold,
a bright cloud cast a shadow over them,
then from the cloud came a voice that said,
“This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased;
listen to him.”
When the disciples heard this, they fell prostrate
and were very much afraid.
But Jesus came and touched them, saying,
“Rise, and do not be afraid.”
And when the disciples raised their eyes,
they saw no one else but Jesus alone.
As they were coming down from the mountain,
Jesus charged them,
“Do not tell the vision to anyone
until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead.”
The Gospel of the Lord.

The Mass intention is for Breege Chapman and Family.

Reflection:
Our parish has been blessed to have Eucharistic adorations at the Poor Clare sisters’ convent chapel Monday to Saturday evenings. My family and I used to do our adoration on a Friday. Due to the lockdown, this opportunity has been put on hold. Recalling the devotion, I note how some parishioners who have also been doing this told me how refreshing it is to be in the presence of the Lord in the Blessed Sacrament.
In His Transfiguration, Jesus gave His apostles a glimpse of His future glory. Peter, having witnessed this, exclaimed “Lord, it is good that we are here”. This has been echoed by people down the ages adoring the Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. We all have experienced a foretaste of what it is to be with the Lord. The story does not end at Tabor nor in chapel though. Just as Jesus and His apostles went down the mountain after that experience to carry out His mission, we too leave the chapel to continue our own mission.

• Jesus’ face “shone like the sun and his clothes became white as light”. What steps do you take to reveal Jesus’ glory in your life?
• “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.” What distracts you from listening to Jesus?
• What experience from this Gospel reading and/or from your previous Eucharistic adorations (in the chapel or online) can you take to add flavour to your mission as a follower of Jesus?
Lord, thank You for Your Word today. Inspire us by Your Transfiguration to become more configured to You so that we too may share in the glory that You intend for all people. Amen.
Fraternally,
Pietro
