Gospel: Luke 6:39-42
Jesus told his disciples a parable:
“Can a blind person guide a blind person?
Will not both fall into a pit?
No disciple is superior to the teacher;
but when fully trained,
every disciple will be like his teacher.
Why do you notice the splinter in your brother’s eye,
but do not perceive the wooden beam in your own?
How can you say to your brother,
‘Brother, let me remove that splinter in your eye,’
when you do not even notice the wooden beam in your own eye?
You hypocrite! Remove the wooden beam from your eye first;
then you will see clearly
to remove the splinter in your brother’s eye.”

Reflection:
In today’s Gospel, Jesus challenges us to be vigilant. If we do not have the light of Christ, we cannot guide others to the right path. We will both fall into a pit! If we do not mirror the Father’s mercy, it would be quick for us to notice the splinter in our neighbour’s eye and fail to see the wooden beam in our own eye. We can fall into the trap of passing judgement on others but fail to notice our own shortcomings. We would not be different from the scribes and Pharisees. Venerable Thomas a Kempis once wrote: “Turn your eyes upon yourself and beware of judging what others do. In judging others, a man toils in vain, often goes astray, and easily sins; but in judging and examining himself he toils fruitfully”.
- How do you look after your spiritual life?
- How can you avoid being judgemental of others?
- How can you effectively guide others to Jesus?
Lord Jesus, thank You for Your Word today. Keep us awake so that we may clearly see Your truth and lead others to it. Amen.
Sincerely,
Pietro
