Gospel Thought for Today – 15th September Memorial of Our Lady of Sorrows

Gospel: John 19:25-27

Standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple there whom he loved he said to his mother, “Woman, behold, your son.” Then he said to the disciple, “Behold, your mother.” And from that hour the disciple took her into his home.

The Gospel of the Lord.

The Mass intention is for Anne Betteridge RIP.

Reflection:

After commemorating Jesus’ Cross yesterday, today we honour Mary under the title of Our Lady of Sorrows. St Ambrose commented that Mary, although sorrowful under the foot of Our Lord’s Cross, was a powerful figure during that horrible scene. Despite being left alone by His apostles, except John, Jesus was consoled in His final hours with the love and care of His Blessed Mother. Mary stands out as the Lord’s bravest follower. In His agony, Jesus still had thoughts about His Mother and His followers. He entrusted them to each other. As we venerate Our Lady of Sorrows, let us renew our commitment to follow Jesus and to serve our brothers and sisters through thick and thin.

· How do you make sense of the trials you are experiencing right now?

· What makes you stand up for a friend in need?

· How can you become a more caring member of the Church?

Lord Jesus, thank You for Your Word today. Through the prayers and example of Mary, Our Lady of Sorrows, give us strength to comfort Your suffering people. Amen.

Sincerely,

Pietro
