Gospel Thought for Today 2nd October Memorial of the Holy Guardian Angels

Gospel:  Luke 10:1-12

The disciples approached Jesus and said,
“Who is the greatest in the Kingdom of heaven?”
He called a child over, placed it in their midst, and said,
“Amen, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children,
you will not enter the Kingdom of heaven.
Whoever humbles himself like this child
is the greatest in the Kingdom of heaven.
And whoever receives one child such as this in my name receives me.

“See that you do not despise one of these little ones,
for I say to you that their angels in heaven
always look upon the face of my heavenly Father.”

The Gospel of the Lord.

The Mass intention is for Mother Francesca’s intentions.

Reflection:

When my daughter was baptised, one of our friends gave her a picture of a guardian angel with a little girl as a gift. The picture included a prayer:

Angel of God, my guardian dear

To whom God’s love commits me here.

Ever this day be at my side

To light and guard

To rule and guide. Amen.

We believe that each of us has a guardian angel appointed by God “to represent individuals before God, to watch over them always, to aid their prayer, and to present their souls to God at death.” Indeed, Jesus confirms this in today’s Gospel: See that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that their angels in heaven always look upon the face of my heavenly Father.” Today’s feast day reminds us that God cares and provides for our needs 24/7.

  • How do you relate with your guardian angel?
  • What incidents in your life did you experience your guardian angel’s protection?
  • If all of us have a guardian angel, what does that imply in terms of how we treat others, especially the nobodies in society?

Lord Jesus, thank You for Your Word today. Through the prayers of the Holy Guardian Angels, keep us safe from all danger until we reach our true home. Amen.

Sincerely,

Pietro
