Gospel thought for Friday 27th November

Luke 21:29-33

He told them this parable: “Look at the fig tree and all the trees. When they sprout leaves, you can see for yourselves and know that summer is near.  Even so, when you see these things happening, you know that the kingdom of God is near.

“Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.

Commentary

Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.

Our Lords words in today’s gospel remind us that nothing in this world can last.   Sometimes we want to hold on to where we are, yet we know it just cannot be done.  It is important to know that we are journeying towards something much greater,  our real future lies before us,  and unimaginable happiness in which we will see God face to face and be re-united with our loved ones.  We know this by our faith, yet we do not always feel it:  but it is our faith which keeps us walking forward, even when life is dark.  Faith is the victory.
