Gospel Thought for Tuesday 1st December Advent

Gospel – Luke 10:21-24

At that same hour Jesus rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said, ‘I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and the intelligent and have revealed them to infants; yes, Father, for such was your gracious will.

All things have been handed over to me by my Father; and no one knows who the Son is except the Father, or who the Father is except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.’

Then turning to the disciples, Jesus said to them privately, ‘Blessed are the eyes that see what you see! For I tell you that many prophets and kings desired to see what you see, but did not see it, and to hear what you hear, but did not hear it.’

Reflection:

Today’s Gospel is very apt for our time! We are seeing and experiencing things that we never thought we would see and experience? The impact of the Covid-19 virus is having on all of us, it can be devastating if we allow it to? Our life style’s are and have been totally restricted and in some cases put on hold? Our Churches Closed, Families struggling, Job’s in Retail, Social, Leisure, everything connected with our growth as children of God is thrown into question?

My friends lets not lose heart or become despondent! Let’s take courage from today’s Gospel. Jesus reminds us that Christian Joy is a deep reality. It does not mean being light-hearted, in a good mood. Its fundamental constituent is peace.

In Jesus, so in us, it comes from the Holy Spirit. Jesus is the fullness of the Father, this fullness is revealed by Jesus to his disciples and to us! Pope Francis, reminds us, “The Eucharist, although it is the fullness of sacramental life, is not a prize for the perfect but a powerful medicine and nourishment for the weak.”

  • Children trust in their parents completely and accept everything they say. Do I trust God completely, and trust everything he say’s?
