Gospel thought for Friday 4th December Advent

Gospel – Matthew 9:27-31

As Jesus went on from there, two blind men followed him, crying loudly, “Have mercy on us, Son of David!” When he entered the house, the blind men came to him; and Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” They said to him, “Yes, Lord.”

Then he touched their eyes and said, “According to your faith let it be done to you.” And their eyes were opened. Then Jesus sternly ordered them, “See that no one knows of this.” But they went away and spread the news about him throughout that district.

Reflection:

In today’s Gospel Jesus is teaching us a powerful lesson. TRUST ME! Jesus said to the tow blind men, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” They said to him, “Yes, Lord.”

The Gospel speaks about two blind men. It’s a story that we find in Mark’s gospel, but here with significant differences For instance, Mark only has one blind man while Matthew has two. We should not just read this as just another miracle, another proof of Jesus’ divine power. It begins with the two blind men going after Jesus calling after him in desperation, have compassion on us, Son of David. Without our trust in Jesus he can do nothing for us.

  • Lord, you do not meet me as one of a multitude, but face-to-face, you see me for who I am! How does this encounter help me on your Christian journey

  • In matters of faith, we are all blind in some way. But, if I allow Jesus to touch my heart, he will help me see more clearly the path I should follow. Do I trust him?
