Gospel Reading – Matthew 9: 32-37
After they had gone away, a demoniac who was mute was brought to him. And when the demon had been cast out, the one who had been mute spoke; and the crowds were amazed and said, ‘Never has anything like this been seen in Israel.’ But the Pharisees said, ‘By the ruler of the demons he casts out the demons.’
Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and curing every disease and every sickness. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.
Then he said to his disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few; therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into his harvest.’

Reflection:
The people’s amazement and delight quickly turns into doubt and questioning. As I review my life, I pay attention to where my heart has been lifted and, carefully reviewing what tarnishes my joy, I ask God for the help I know I need. We are half way there when we know we are in need of God’s help and love, the rest we leave to him.
The heart of Jesus – the Sacred Heart – goes out to people who are in need. I allow yourself to be looked on with compassion, asking Jesus now to be your leader, your shepherd, the one who wants to make you whole.
- How often do you pray to the Lord of the harvest to send labors into his harvest?
- Have you ever told anyone they would make a good Priest, Deacon, Religious Sister or Brother? Jesus could be using you to promote Vocations?
